Starting with the first unearthing of Apatosaurus fossils in 1877 Dinosaur Ridge has continued to be one of the most important fossil sites in the United States. The park is located just south of Golden, sandwiched between Matthew Winters Open Space Park and Green Mountain Open Space Park. Today, under scrutiny by the Friends of Dinosaur Ridge, the location is considered a "must see" for both students of archaeology and dinosaur enthusiasts around the world.
